Earthshine was established 15 years ago by Natalie and Noel. We’re chatting with Natalie to understand more about the Earthshine brand and why activating your nuts and seeds is beneficial for health.
Hi Natalie, please tell us a bit more about Earthshine?
Noel and I followed a raw, vegan lifestyle and noticed our health improving day-by-day. Experiencing such life-changing results inspired us to start educating others and so we started Earthshine. Initially, the company focussed on inspiring talks and courses, as well as takeaway foods. Through this, people started asking us to make healthy, tasty snacks, which led to the creation of this wonderful range of products that we now have. We consistently push the boundaries of flavour and quality in a world where our food sovereignty has become highly questionable.
What does Earthshine sell?
We specialise in dehydrated snacks, heirloom cacao products and a good range of quality superfoods and pantry items.
Where are you from?
Noel is from the UK and has a background in permaculture systems design and art. I am a true Capetownian with a background in production management, HR and Health and Safety.

Why is ‘activating’ important?
Activation is the process of soaking and therefore cleaning seeds and nuts. Some of these ingredients (especially brown nuts) contain phytic acid in their skins, which are antagonistic towards digestion. Once you experience the difference, both in texture and the feeling in your stomach after eating nuts, such as almonds, you will never look back. We activate our nuts and seeds to ensure for easier digestion (and better taste).
